Emma Cooper is a freelance writer, photographer and podcaster. An active organic gardener, Emma lives in Oxfordshire with three plastic compost bins, two wormeries and a pair of bokashi bins. There used to be chickens, too, but they have all moved on to pastures new.
Emma loves making compost and growing edible & useful plants in an environmentally-friendly way. Her first book, 'The Alternative Kitchen Garden: An A to Z', covers a wide range of topics from green gardening techniques to unusual edible plants and was published by Permanent Publications in 2009. Emma's second book, 'The Allotment Pocket Bible', was published by Crimson in June 2011.
In Growing Unusual Vegetables, Simon Hickmott says that green chickpea pods are very easily damaged by frost.
Since the weather girl on the telly yesterday said cold weather was coming (she should put on a sweater), I pulled up my chickpea plants yesterday. Faced with a dilemma about exactly how to hang them upside down to dry in the grow dome, I hung them all from a clothes airer.
As I brought them in while they were dry, and it is now raining, I am feeling quite smug :o)
